(Picture is of the Tovahaunted LP, not the source cdr)
Pocahaunted have been blowing up all over the internet over the last year or so and I admit to being caught up in the hype a while back. However, recently I’ve found my interest in the bands music waning dramatically as each new release just sounds the same as the last. I personally think the band peaked with their superb Beast That You Are tape on Night People last March and all the subsequent LP’s/tapes after that haven’t been interesting to me at all. Some people are saying that the new tape on ExBx is excellent and not the usual Pocahaunted stuff but we’ll see.
When this ‘collaboration’ LP between Tovah Olson (of Dead Machines) & Pocahaunted was announced to be released on Tovah’s own label my interest was peaked instantly as I enjoy the work of both artists. However when I recieved the LP I was pretty disappointed for several reasons, firstly it doesn’t sound like there are any recognisable elements of Pocahaunted sound in there, it’s all just Tovah’s usual harsh wall of noise. Secondly, even for someone who deals with just swathes of noise this particalar release is just dull, turgid boring noise. If it were a painting it’d be only painted with grey.
Anyway, about a week after the release Not Not Fun were selling their copies of the LP and were offering this cdr free with it. The CD contains the source recordings that Pocahaunted made to send to Tovah mostly I’d assume just to offer the original untouched track to have a listen to and not let it go unheard again (or maybe they weren’t happy with the end result?).
The LP on Tovinator was limited to 200 copies and I’m pretty sure is long sold out (try emailing John Olson to see if there’s any left) and this cdr was only made in a micro figure (no more than 30 I’d guess) so enjoy the source recordings of this.
