Apologies for the tiny picture for this one but as it’s currently about 1,500 KM away from me at the moment this is the best I can find (it was part of a larger collection picture hence the size).
Jason Crumer is, personally, one of the best noise artists out there at the moment. His album last year on Hospital Productions, Ottoman Black, was a perfect mix of harsh noise and balls out madness and it rightly appeared on several Best Of 2008 lists. Crumer came into noise after spending the first 6 years of the ’00s being guitarist for the hardcore/metal metal band facedowninshit. While still a member of that band he started to put out tapes of his own work based aorund harsh noise and experimentalism. facedowninshit seem to be on a permenant hiatus at the moment and this leaves Crumer to explore noise as much as he wants.
Local Scum is a CDR lathe that was released on the Produck label back in 2007. It is a cdr of a live recording of Crumer made at Nightlight, Chapel Hill NC Dec 2006. I assume that both the lathe & cdr contents of this release are sourced from the same recording. The link below only contains the audio cdr bits of the release, I found it near impossible to even play the lathe propely, never mind even rip it! Anyway, enjoy this nice short blast of noise..
