Gospel were one of those bands that were the second wave of American screamo bands. The kind of band that heard bands like Hassan I Sabbah and said “I can do that, only better” and so they did. Gospel took the screamo template and added elements of prog rock, experimentalism and other mad bits to create something pretty great. This tape was their second official release after the Kodan Armada split (which I will get one of these days as the Kodan Armada side changed the way I saw hardcore) and was essentially a live demo of the tracks that were to appear on their only full length album The Moon Is A Dead World which was released on Level Plane the next year.
Released on Fuck Tapes, the cassette was limited to 200 copies and has never been seen/uploaded since. I got the tape randomly after finding it in a distro several months back. I then foolishly sold it off to make a quick $ which I’ll never bother doing again!
Info on the tracks themselves:
Tracks 1-4 Recorded Live at the Knitting Factory, NYC
Recorded Stone Cold & Sober by Kimmy Diamonds
Tracks 5-6 Recorded Live in Canada
Track 6 is missing from the tapes and probably doesn’t exist, the track title (“What Means of Witchery”) is crossed out from the cover by hand.
