Free Noise is an eagerly awaited first-time collaboration featuring major names from the burgeoning noise and free jazz scenes on both sides of the Atlantic. As free jazz was originally seen as an abuse of established musical forms, so is noise today. This Contemporary Music Network tour brings together the revolutionary genius at the heart of both for a visceral, revelatory and often explosive experience. Over two sets, and through a series of improvised combinations, the paths of these two unorthodox musics will converge to create something both beautiful and terrifying. Expect riotous freeform squalls, minimalist meditations and breathtaking cliffs of extreme volume.
Set 1 : 47:28
Set 2 : 49:51
Audience recording using Sony stereo mic -> Mini-disc -> Sonic Stage (converted to wav 44.1kHz 16 bit) -> Reaper -> FLAC -> you
The Free Noise tour was a tour of musicians around the UK in 2007 where Evan Parker, Paul Hession, Yellow Swans, John Weise, C. Spencer Yeh, Metalux, John Edwards & Culver all collaborated together in long form improvisations together than played to the strengths of each performer. The results will probably seem a bit more restrained than expected given the line up but is still incredible they managed to pull it off without sounding like a mess.

Very very limited 2xCDR put out by Burning Star Core on C. Spencer Yeh’s own DroneDisco label. This is a two CDR set comprised of, in the usual DroneDisco style, of three recordings of live performances given by Burning Star Core in 2007. The first is entitled “Fascination: Live at the Ashworth Tap Room 9.16.07” which Yeh describes as being “a tribute to a write-up of the Japanese noise band C.C.C.C in an old catalog from Forced Exposure” and being “psychadelic human noise”. The other disc is made up of extracts from two live recordings made at the Southgate House on 9.16.07 and 4.22.07. These were described
You can just about make it out in the picture but there’s a nice amount of text on the inlay of the CD where Yeh talks about C.C.C.C, listening to noise jams, driving and eating pizza while listening to noise. In the next day or two I’m going to make a few Misc. posts on here (artwork I didn’t upload before etc) and that entire text will be one of the posts for sure.
Burning Star Core – Fascination 2xCDR [DroneDisco, 2008]
I’ve been following the ‘career’ of C. Spencer Yeh since i first came across him in 2006 and have amassed quite a few of his tapes & CDR’s. On each release he seems toplay a different release and it is in this on that he strips his work down to two tracks, firstly Voice where he uses nothing else bar his voice and secondly just electronics (pictured on the cover). This is the solid, experimantal solo BxC work that we all know and love..
