Grouper
2009-09-12 All Tomorrow’s Parties New York 2009, Kutsher’s Country Club, Monticello, NYAn ACIDJACK master recording
Equipment: DPA 4061 (Coresound HEB)>R-09HR (24/44.1)
Position: FOB center of main floor, stealth
Mastering: WAV>Audacity (tracking, compression on clapping, downsample to 16bit, amplify each channel, slight EQ)>FLAC (level 8)Portland, OR based Grouper was a relaxing way to start the second day of ATP insanity, as many concertgoers were still shaking off hangovers or reeling from the shock and awe sonic assault of the Jesus Lizard who closed out the previous night. In start contrast, Grouper is a one-woman show using tape loops and other effects (with the loops recorded live to old-school cassette) to create a layered, blissful sound.
Sound again came out beautifully. You will hear some spots at the end of each song where I tried to compress down the crowd clapping. It’s a touch abrupt, which seemed a bit unavoidable as this was the quietest set at ATP. Crowd was very quiet other than d-bag wannabe “photographers” and their digital cameras clicking at some points. Hope you enjoy!
